Successful resolution of longstanding dispute with builder

We were approached by an individual who had become embroiled in an on-going dispute with the building contractor he had used to carry out significant works on a coastal investment property. The relationship had soured and our client was under threat of being sued for non-payment by the building contractor's solicitor. We were instructed to review the case and liaise with the contractor's solicitor in order to resolve the dispute and put an end to any on-going threats. There was no actual contractual agreement, but a trail of email exchanges and telephone conversations. Having analysed all of this, we produced a detailed statement and negotiated a satisfactory settlement. Our client's main desire was to achieve peace of mind as the on-going nature of the threat had caused him significant distress. Therefore, whilst there may have been scope to bring some sort of counter-claim, the approach taken achieved our client's aim of resolving the dispute and allowing him to move on with his life.
